Abstract
Democratization in Taiwan and Mongolia has
not only changed the role of democratic institutions and the role of society in
the political process, but also brought about manifold changes in the
relationship between the voter, the media and the politician. In Japan, the
region’s oldest democracy, economic development and demographic and social
changes have also changed the traditional relationship between the three
actors.
In this book, the author looks at the changing
interrelationship between society, the media and the political arena that have
evolved over the last decade and uses the 2004 and 2005 national elections to
illustrate the consequences of these manifold changes.
